Find and Use the Death Flower in the Sims 4 (2024)

The death flower is a very rare flower to find in the Sims 4 Base Game and has several different uses for gameplay. In this post I explain everything the death flower is useful for and what the different methods are to find one in the game.

Uses for the Death Flower in the Sims 4

Bringing Sims Back to Life

Death flowers are special in that they can be used to bring ghost sims back to life. If your sim has a death flower in their inventory whilst they are witnessing another sim’s death, then they can give a death flower to the grim reaper in order to save the dying sim’s life. An option will appear when you click on the grim reaper. 

Additionally, the death flower is one of the three main ingredients for the ambrosia treat in the Sims 4. Ambrosia can be crafted and given to a ghost sim to bring them back to life. Click here to learn more about the angelfish and ambrosia cheats! 

With the Sims 4 Horse Ranch expansion pack, sims can craft the vitality nectar and serve that to extend a sim’s lifespan or to bring a ghost sim back to life. The death flower is one of the two ingredients needed to make the vitality/life nectar. 

Making Money 

Death flowers can be used to make money like any other flower in the sims 4. They can be sold from a sim’s inventory for varying amounts between 100 and 667 simoleons. If you have the Sims 4 Seasons expansion pack, then it is useful to know that the death flower is in season in winter. 

Ageing Up Sims 

Lastly, if your sim has level nine of the flower arranging skill (requires the Sims 4 Seasons expansion pack), then they can scent flower arrangements with a death flower. This will add a “scent of death” buff to the bouquet, which causes any recipient of the flower arrangement to age up as soon as they are gifted it. Note that elderly sims will die from receiving a flower arrangement with the scent of death. This method of ageing up sims is also effective on vampires. However, elderly vampires are an exception as they who won’t die. 

How To Get A Death Flower in the Sims 4

Below, I have laid out six different ways of obtaining a death flower in the sims 4. 

1 – Gardening (Base Game) 

Gardening to obtain a death flower requires level 5 of the gardening skill and is the slowest method as it takes the most time to complete the different steps. Here’s how to do it: 

1. Graft an apple (found in a starter seed packet) with a cherry (found near the Landgrab’s lot in Oasis Springs) to make pomegranates. 
2. Graft a snapdragon and a lily (both found near the Goths home and by the commercial area in Willow Creek) to make orchids. 
3. Graft the pomegranate and the orchid to make a death flower. 
4. Harvest the death flower. 

Graft plants by taking cuttings from them and then grafting the cuttings onto the other plants. 

If you have the sims 4 cottage living, then all of the ingredients can be found from the garden and/or grocery shops in Henford-On-Bagley. However, if you don’t want to pay for them or don’t have cottage living then I have included locations where they are likely to spawn above in brackets. You may have to return to the locations a few times before being able to harvest them if they either aren’t in season or haven’t spawned. 

With the Sims 4 Seasons the death flower is in season in winter. If it is a different season in the game when you want to grow the death flower, then remember to keep the plant sheltered. 

2 – Buy Rare Plants Seeds Packet (Base Game) 

Level 10 of the gardening skill is required for this method. Rare Plants Seeds packets can be purchased using the computer or in build/buy mode under the “Outdoor Activities” category of items. They cost 1000 simoleons each and come with one item per packet. Open the packet by clicking on it in your sim’s inventory after you buy it. 

There is no guarantee that the packets will include a death flower, so you might get lucky the first time or have to try a lot of times. If you want to try out this method, but your sim doesn’t have enough money check out these money cheats. 

3 – Purchase From The Gallery (Base Game, Easy Method) 

Many simmers have uploaded “rooms” to the gallery with the death flower in them. Sometimes the rooms will include an angelfish as well given that both are needed to make ambrosia. The price of the rooms can vary quite a lot. Here are the steps to follow: 

1. Open the gallery 
2. Search for “death flower” 
3. Select and place one of the rooms on to your sim’s lot 
4. Return to live mode and drag the death flower into your sim’s personal inventory (you may have to delete the walls of the room to select the flower more easily) 

4 – Purchase from the Potion Ingredients Stall in the Magic Realm (Sims 4 Realm Of Magic) 

Steps to purchase the death flower from the magic realm: 

1. Enter the magic realm via the portal in Glimmerbrook 
2. Go to Casters Alley 
3. Check the potion ingredients stall 

This is a very easy method, but an unreliable one because the stall may or may not have the death flower available to purchase. If it doesn’t you can simply check back a few times over the next few days in the game until one is put up for sale. The death flower can cost up to 1,200 simoleons, which makes this one of the most expensive methods of obtaining the flower. 

Note that your sim does not need to be a spellcaster to enter the magic realm and go to casters alley. 

5 – Ask Roberto Crinkletop (Sims 4 Horse Ranch) 

In the Sims 4 Horse Ranch, there is a mysterious rancher called Roberto Crinkletop who is known for buying your sim’s nectar at better prices than they would otherwise sell for. However, did you know that he can give your sim a death flower for FREE! Here’s how: 

1. Travel to the New Appaloosa neighbourhood of Chestnut Ridge (Rusty Horseshoe nightclub lot is the easiest for locating him). 
2. You will find Roberto Crinkletop hanging around in front of the grocery store (close to the Equestrian Centre) on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays around noon. 
3. Chat to him using friendly interactions enough until you become good friends.  
4. Use the “Ask About Family Nectar Recipe” to learn the recipe for vitality nectar (spinach and death flower) and then “Ask for Life Nectar Ingredients” to receive a death flower for free! 

Note that for this method to work your sim cannot already have a death flower in their inventory. 

6 – Use the Death Flower Cheat (Base Game) 

Players can cheat to obtain the death flower by using the buy debug mode cheat. Here’s how: 

1. Activate cheats in the Sims 4 by pressing down on the keys SHIFT + CTRL + C (for console players: hold down all four shoulder buttons). Then type in “testingcheats true” and press enter 
2. Type into the bar bb.showhiddenobjects and press enter 
3. Navigate to view all objects in the game in build mode and there will be many objects that you usually wouldn’t be able to see without this cheat (those items are part of the debug catalogue) 
4. Search “death flower” and press enter 
5. Place it on your sims’ lot 
6. In live mode you can drag the death flower into your Sims’ inventory! 

7 – Transform Object into the Death Flower (Sims 4 Get To Work) 

Have a sim in the scientist career (at least level three) produce a SimRay. Then they will need to upgrade it to be able to transform objects using the Invention Constructor. Now, that SimRay can be used (by a scientist or not) to randomly transform objects. This can result in a death flower.
