The Research & Debate skill cheat code is the perfect hack for instantaneous levelling up. This skill came with the Sims 4 Discover University expansion pack. It’s mainly used alongside the Research Machine, which acts not only as a skill-building object but can also be used as a money-making scheme once you reach high enough levels of the skill.
This post has a step-by-step guide on how to use the Research & Debate skill cheat in the Sims 4. Note that you can cheat the level to be higher or lower than it currently is by choosing the specific level that you want your sim to have.
Step 1 – Enable Cheats
Make the cheat bar appear in the top left hand corner of the screen by pressing:
- CTRL + Shift + C on PC and Mac.
- All four triggers on console.
Type in “testingcheats on” and press enter to enable the use of cheats.
Step 2 – Research & Debate Skill Cheat
Input stats.set_skill_level major_researchdebate X into the cheat bar and press enter, replacing X with the level of the skill you would like your sim to obtain.
The cheat bar is not case sensitive, so the use of capital letters won’t make any difference. Below, I have written out the cheat for each level so that you can just copy and paste the cheat code that you want to use!

Cheat to Max the Research & Debate Skill
There are 10 possible levels for the research and debate skill in the Sims 4. Therefore, you can max it by typing in the cheat code for level 10!

If you own the Sims 4 Discover University, then I suggest playing with the Research & Debate skill as it involves unique gameplay and makes for great storytelling.
