If your Sims are in dire need for more simoleons quickly or they simply like to gamble, then the lottery might just save the day! The lottery in the Sims 4 is set up in the same way as holidays are in the game (learn more in this guide on holidays in the Sims 4). Therefore, the lottery requires the Sims 4 Seasons. It is a unique and unpredictable way of earning money in the Sims 4. The win is by no means guaranteed, but it could change your Sim’s lives in a day!
How to Buy a Lottery Ticket
It’s really easy to buy a lottery ticket in the Sims 4! On the day of the lottery, just follow these two steps:
- Go to your Sim’s phone or computer
- Select the “Purchase Lottery Ticket” option

About the Lottery
How It Works: On the day of the lottery a holiday pop up will appear in the top left of your screen at 6 am on the day. By buying a lottery ticket, the holiday will be complete and be marked as successful for your Sim.
When It Happens: The lottery day is generated randomly by the game if you have the Sims 4 Seasons. It will appear a few days earlier in your calendar.
Who Can Buy a Ticket: Your Sim has to be a young adult, adult or elder to be able to buy a lottery ticket.
How Much Does It Cost: Each ticket costs 100 simoleons and you can buy one ticket per household member.
If your Sim participates in the lottery, they may also gain a few fun moodlets such as “Wishes of Riches” for 2 hours. Ambitious and materialistic Sims love this holiday, so joining in will give them lots of positive moodlets!
The holiday comes with 3 new interactions that remain options for the whole day:
- Share The Lottery Spirit
- Sing about The Lottery
- Complain about The Lottery
How to Find Out Who Won the Lottery
The results of the lottery will be announced in the morning (at around 10am) the day after the lottery day. They will appear as a notification in the upper right corner of your screen just like in this screenshot:
If you own the Sims 4 Get Famous, then your sim might have a bigger chance of winning the lottery if they are already famous.
How to Mimic a Lottery Win in the Sims 4
Your Sim can definitely win the lottery, but just like in real life it is very rare. If you would like to force (or “fake”) a win for your own gameplay, then you can do one of the following:
- Use money cheats to increase your household funds. I recommend using the motherlode cheat twice to add 100,000 simoleons to your household funds!
- Either marry or “Add to Household” the winner of the lottery, then immediately remove them whilst keeping their funds.
Final Thoughts
When the household funds are low, your Sim’s fate is left in the hands of the game as they enter the lottery. The unpredictability makes for fun gameplay!
