The Sims 4 has many different forms of goals such as life-long soul journeys and aspirations, to short-term whims and resolutions. They guide you through the game ensuring you make the most of what’s on offer while adding to your storytelling abilities.
Resolutions were added as part of The Sims 4 Seasons expansion pack. They are short-term goals that expire after one week. This post will cover everything you need to know about resolutions in the Sims 4.
How to Add Resolutions
Making resolutions is one of the holiday traditions that you can choose from when creating a new holiday for your sim’s calendar. The tradition will be set automatically as one of the traditions for New Year’s Eve holiday when starting a new game save.
During the holiday, click on your sim and select the option to “Make a Resolution…”.

Complete an Aspiration Milestone
Work through the milestone tasks found in the aspiration panel. If you’re struggling to complete any and want them done immediately, then use the Sims 4 Aspiration Cheat.
Get a Significant Other
Once you’ve gotten to know another sim and flirted a bit an option will appear in the relationship category of social interactions to ask to become their partner. Get to know someone well enough within a week to complete this aspiration! Having a higher romance skill might be helpful for this one.
Get More Social Media Followers (requires the Sims 4 City Living)
Your sim must be in the social media career that came with The Sims 4 City Living expansion pack. Use your sim’s computer to post and interact with social media. Every time you do this your sim will gain followers! Gain at least 100 followers within a week to complete this aspiration.
Get Promoted
Every job has promotion requirements or ways to edge your sim closer to a promotion. Here are the main ways:
- Look at the promotion requirements for your level (oftentimes this involves increasing your sim’s relevant skill levels)
- Have your sim work hard at work (select this option from their icon when they are at work)
- Cheat for a promotion (career cheats are very similar between careers, so use this post to guide you: education career cheat)
- If your job has a work from home option, then make sure to complete all of the work from home tasks before their next working day
Raise a Skill
Level up any of your sim’s skills. There are so many ways of doing this, but reading skill books is one way that works for almost every skill even if it isn’t always the fastest method. If you need help with completing this resolutions I recommend checking out these posts:
- Logic skill
- Skiing skill (requires the Sims 4 Snowy Escape)
- Knitting skill (requires the Sims 4 Nifty Knitting)
Write a Book
All sims can choose to write a book under the Write category on a computer. If your sim doesn’t own a laptop or computer, then travel to a Library community lot and use theirs. Make sure your sim completes the entire book (you’ll be prompted to name it) to complete this aspiration. The book can be of any genre.
Get Fit
Run. Run. Run. Run! The easiest way to get fit in the sims is to click on your sim and select Go Jogging. If your sim is rich enough to have fitness equipment at home, then work out using those regularly. Otherwise, visit Gym or Swimming Pool community lots to complete these aspirations more quickly. It might be helpful for your sims to take brisk showers before exercising to get them in an energised mood.
Lose Weight
For this resolution I think it’s important to make sure your sim isn’t eating exclusively desserts and junk food. Exercise can help as well, but if you find it difficult you aren’t alone. I’ve always found this resolution difficult to complete.

Become a Better Student
Increase your sim’s grade in school. Complete homework each day and extra credit work if that’s an option. Increasing your sim’s skill levels will also help in this pursuit.
If you own The Sims 4 Parenthood game pack, then complete school projects as well to boost your sim’s school performance.
If you own The Sims 4 High School Years expansion pack, your sim can study for exams using any computer or laptop. Exams happen every Friday, so make sure you do it before then.
Get Promoted in the Scouts
Only available to child and teen sims enrolled in the scouts activity. Get promoted by earning more badges. Doing household chores, exercising and using telescopes are all good ways of making progress. Check out this post for everything about scouts in The Sims 4!
Can You Change Your Resolution in the Sims 4?
No, but you could always create a new holiday with resolutions as a tradition.
