Baking Recipes

There are two categories of baking recipes in the Sims 4: Oven Recipes and Cupcake Machine Recipes. Depending on which packs and settings you have in your game, the price to make, ingredients required, or cooking time will vary. Below I have listed all of the baking recipes in the game! Use this key to understand all the columns of the tables (from left to right):

Skill Level – References the baking skill level required to unlock each recipe.

Baked Good (V – vegetarian; LF – lactose-free) – The name of the dish and whether it’s vegetarian and/or lactose-free.

Price to Make (simoleons) – How much it will cost your sim to bake each dish without having any of the ingredients.

Ingredients (quantity) – Some recipes have an ingredient listed, but it is not required that your sim has them in order to make the recipe. However, it will lower the price to bake if they do.

Ingredients w/ Simple Living – The Simple Living lot challenge was added in The Sims 4 Cottage Living expansion pack. You must have all of the ingredients in order to make the dish. The price to make will be zero once you’ve collected all the ingredients.

Fresh Ingredients – These ingredients also require The Sims 4 Cottage Living and affect the price to make for each dish whether your sim has them or not.

Prepped Ingredients – These ingredients require The Sims 4 Home Chef Hustle stuff pack and are made using the Cowbella Stand Mixer item. Using prepped ingredients reduces the required cooking time.

Fresh and Prepped Ingredients – For the lucky players who own both Cottage Living and Home Chef Hustle, you have the option to have both fresh and prepped ingredients enabled. All ingredients will reduce the price to make and/or the cooking time for baking.

Cupcake Machine Recipes

The cupcake machine is a comically large item that can be purchased from build/buy mode and placed onto your sim’s lot. With the cupcake machine, sims have the option to cook cupcakes or bake pastries. The first option requires the cooking skill (learn how to cheat the cooking skill here), but the pastries require baking skill. Here are all the baked goods (i.e., the pastries) that can be made using the cupcake factory:

How to Gain Baking Skill in the Sims 4 (5 Ways to Get Started!)

1. Bake in the Oven

Select a fridge or oven and select the bake option. The more recipes your sim makes, the more skill they will gain.

2. Bake Using the Cupcake Factory Machine

Purchase the Cupcake Factory from build/buy mode for 1,200 simoleons and place it on your sim’s lot. Select the cupcake machine and select “Bake Pastries…” to increase your sim’s baking skill.

Whippe Dream Cupcake Factory build mode listing

3. Read Baking Skill Books

Purchase a Baking Skill Book by clicking on any bookcase (or computer) in game and select the “buy a book” option. To easily find the book that you want, filter the books in the dropdown menu to only show “Skill” books.

Purchase the volume appropriate for the level of snowboarding skill that your Sim currently has.

  • Vol. 1: Mix (Beginner) for levels 1 to 3 – 75 simoleons
  • Vol. 2: Shape (Intermediate) for levels 4 to 6 – 150 simoleons
  • Vol. 3: Bake (Advanced) for levels 7 to 9 – 250 simoleons

4. Sit in on Skill Class (requires Discover University)

Use the phone to “Sit in on Skill Class” for 250 simoleons. This option can be found under the Business category on your sim’s phone if you have the Sims 4 Discover University installed. Your sim will disappear into a rabbit hole for a few hours and increase their baking skill.

5. Enrol in a Baking Elective Course (requires Discover University)

When enrolling in a new term of university, select a baking course from the electives dropdown menu. There may not be one on offer every term, so you might have to wait until the next term. Your sim will gain the handiness skill by doing their homework for the course.

How to Gain the Baking Skill Faster

Listed below are a few different ways that Sims can gain the baking skill faster than normal:

  • Be Inspired
  • Like Baking: Modify your Sim’s likes and dislikes in CAS.
  • Live in a Tier 1 or 2 sized tiny house (requires The Sims 4 Tiny Living): Gain all skills faster on this lot type!
  • Purchase the “Baking Boost” Club Perk (requires The Sims 4 Get Together): Join or create a club and then with 400 club points you can purchase the Baking Boost club perk which will increase the speed your sim gains the baking skill during active club gatherings.

How to Become Inspired

Sim’s can become inspired by taking a thoughtful shower or using moulding clay (purchase in the toy section of build mode) or playing an instrument (depending on their skill level they can pluck for inspiration). With The Sims 4 Outdoor Retreat, Sim’s can gain inspiration from cloud or star gazing. Lastly, Sims who complete brain-boosting yoga will become inspired (requires The Sims 4 Spa Day).

Helpful Reward Potions and Reward Traits

Access the rewards store via the aspiration panel and use satisfaction points to purchase reward potions and traits. If your Sim doesn’t have enough points, then you can use the satisfaction points cheat to instantly fix this. I recommend the following ones to help increase your Sim’s baking skill:

  • Inspired Potion (200 satisfaction points)
  • Morning Sim (1000)
  • Night Owl (1000)
  • Savant (4,000)
  • Stoves and Grills Master (Outdoor Retreat) (1500)

The Marketable trait (1,500) allows your Sim to sell crafted items for more simoleons, which could be very helpful for a baking rags to riches game.

Helpful Traits

  • Perfectionist (have positive moodlets after crafting something of good quality)
  • Creative (become inspired more frequently)
  • Foodie (become happy when eating good quality food)
  • Overachiever (increases skills quicker)

Helpful Lot Traits

Sunny Aspects – increase chance of being inspired

Peace and Quiet – learn skills faster from reading

Baking Skill Cheat

The baking skill cheat is stats.set_skill_level major_baking X. Find more detail about it in this post. Max the baking skill by reaching level 10 of the skill, so for the cheat replace the X by a 10 and press enter. Voila, your sim is a baking master and has unlocked all of the baking recipes in the Sims 4!

Can You Make Money With The Baking Skill in the Sims 4?

There are many ways to make money using baking skills. The simplest way is to sell baked goods directly from your Sim’s personal inventory. With The Sims 4 Get To Work, Sims’ can own retail stores, so you can easily run your own bakery in the game! You’ll be able to sell your baked goods at different levels of price markups. If running a full business seems too intense for your gameplay, then there are several food stalls in the game (requires Home Chef Hustle, City Living, or Crystal Creations) which provide a much easier way of selling. Simply buy a stand from build/buy mode and sell baked goods directly from your Sim’s home lot!

Can you make money with the Cupcake Machine in The Sims 4?

Yes, you can! Baked goods made using the cupcake machine that are of excellent quality can be sold to a local bakery. An option to do so will appear when you click on the dish. Use the price examples below to get an idea of sale prices for a few baked goods using the “Sell to Local Bakery” option versus selling them using the methods above.

Price examples:

  • Salmon croquettes (excellent)
    • Local bakery: 210
    • 25% mark up bakery: 262
  • Plain muffins (excellent)
    • Local bakery: 67
    • 25% mark up bakery: 83

How do you get Ingredients for Baking in The Sims 4?

Many ingredients can be obtained via fishing or gardening in the game. Seed packets can be bought by clicking on planters and then appear straight in your Sim’s inventory. You can also use your Sim’s phone to “Purchase Gifts” and can buy some produce and seed packets. These are all base game features. If you own other packs or want more detailed ways to find produce in the Sims 4, then I recommend reading through our Where to Find Strawberries in the Sims 4 post

Fresh ingredients and those required with the Simple Living lot trait, are added to the game in the Sims 4 Cottage Living. You can buy many food products from the Grocery Shop stall in Henford-On-Bagley, from your own farm, or using the grocery delivery feature on your Sim’s phone.

Conclusion

I hope this post was helpful and not too overwhelming with all of the information included! Let me know what your favourite dishes are to bake in the Sims 4.
